Verdenspremiere 8.september 2010 i Vester Vov Vov
Et af verdens mest usædvanlige bands må siges at være STAFF BENDA BILILI, der optrådte på dette års Roskilde-festival og senest på Århus festival i juli.
Bandet består af en gruppe congolesiske gademusikanter fra området omkring Kinshasa`s zoologiske have, flere af dem ramt af polio og bundet til deres stole - og trehjulede cykler. Men trods fattigdom og sygdom har de udviklet en helt særlig blanding af rumba med elementer af soul, gammeldags rhythm`n` blues og reggae. Kernen i bandet bestod af fire aldrende herrer, da filmholdet under optagelserne til "Brenda Bilili" tilfældigvis stødte på en gadedreng, der med noget så simpelt som en tom dåse har udviklet et én-strenget guitar-lignende instrument, som frembringer en musik, der er af en anden verden! Drengen, Roger Landu, bliver straks fuldgyldigt medlem i bandet, som blev dannet af Ricky Lickabu og Coco Ngambali og opdaget af den belgisk pladeproducent Vincent Kenis, som havde specialiseret sig i congalesisk musik. Kenis fik bandet til at indspille deres debutalbum "Tres Tres Fort" som blev til over tre år og udkom i 2009 med øjeblikkelig kæmpesucces til følge.
Filmen om "Benda Bilili" er en videreudvikling af kort-dokumentaren "Jupiter`s Dance" fra 2007, som Renaud Barret og Florent de la Tullaye påbegyndte i 2005 og flere videoer blev i mellemtiden lagt ud på internettet for at fortælle om det usædvanlige band.
Gennem det seneste år har Staff Benda Bilili turneret rundt om i hele Europa og har fået tordnende succes overalt!
Den færdige "Benda Bilili" blev udvalgt til visning på åbningsdagen af Quinzaine des Réalisateurs i Cannes i maj 2010 og får sin officielle verdenspremiere samtidig i Danmark og Frankrig den 8.september.
